Disneyland 2025

Growing up I went to Disneyland multiple times, and I was even fortunate enough to go to Disney World. I love Disney! I went to college about 15 minutes away from Disneyland, so I purchased an annual pass and went all the time during my college years! My husband on the other hand, while he doesn’t hate Disneyland, he just isn’t a fan of crowds, long lines and the cost of Disney.

Neither my husband nor I had really entertained the idea of taking our daughter to Disneyland. It wasn’t until my brother had mentioned it a couple times, saying that he really wanted to see Disneyland through his niece’s eyes. I found this very touching, and it was hard to turn down an opportunity to go to Disneyland.

Cue the planning by the Accounting Momma! When I went to Disney World I travelled with my mom, dad, brother and grandparents. I thought the trip to visit my brother and sister-in-law (and go to Disneyland) would be perfect for my parents to come with us. I had briefly mentioned the idea to my parents in the summer, and after finalizing dates, I put together an Excel spreadsheet to breakdown the days, including Disney day, where we would be staying, etc.

I convinced my parents to stay 2 nights at the Disneyland Hotel — I had never stayed at the hotel, but have always wanted to. I’ll speak to it more later, but the hotel definitely did not disappoint. I was worried that it would be over-hyped/ not up to my expectations (for the price), but I loved our stay and would 100% stay there again. I wanted our daughter’s first time to Disneyland to be special, and thought the Disneyland Hotel would be perfect.

I’ll provide a high level overview of our overall trip, and will focus in on our day at Disneyland. I’ll help answer ‘what does a realistic day at Disneyland look like with a 15 month old?’ I will also include a cost breakdown for everyone, as budgeting it always important!

Overview

Flight and Check In

We departed on an early morning flight on a Wednesday. The flight time from Nor Cal to So Cal is pretty quick, so my daughter was able to be entertained enough during that time. We purchased a few new toys for her, including a light up busy board and I highly recommend! She LOVES this toy so much and it entertained her for a long time. Snacks – snacks are also a wonderful form of entertainment for babies on flights!

We landed in Southern California late morning and were able to check into the Disneyland Hotel around noon (thankful for the early check in as we were able to get my daughter down for her regularly scheduled afternoon nap at 1pm!).

Disneyland Hotel

Everyone at the Disneyland Hotel was so welcoming and friendly. Every detail is so cleverly thought out – from the Disney pack n’ play sheets to the light up/ music playing headboard – it was magical to stay there.

We stayed in a 1 Bedroom Family Suite in the Frontier Tower on the 3rd floor. This room was the perfect size as it allowed us to put our daughter to sleep in the bedroom, while we could hang out in the living room (instead of having to turn off all the lights and sit in the dark until we went to bed). That’s always the struggle when traveling with a little one and staying in a hotel. I think suites have been our go-to (where possible) as it allows us the freedom to separate from our daughter when she goes to bed.

After her nap (and my parent’s nap), we explored Downtown Disney for a bit before our dinner at Naples Ristorante (in DT Disney). We met up with my brother and sister-in-law for dinner and had a nice evening before hitting the parks the following day.

Packing for Disneyland

Planning for Disneyland is important, especially with a baby. I purchased some additional items  that I thought we could use (see below).

Note: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Disposable bibs – These came in handy so often, as we wanted to try to keep our daughter’s clothes as clean as possible (especially with the cute family matching shirts we did!). These disposable bibs fold up small enough to fit in any bag, and are very useful.
  • Lock – I had purchased a small lock to lock our diaper bag to the stroller, but I realized that this was not necessary (and was a bit too tedious to attach given the size).
  • Cooling Towels – I thought that we would need cooling towels given the heat; however, the weather ended up being perfect and we didn’t need them. These cooling towels will come in handy for other times though, so I don’t regret the purchase.
  • Headphones – I had purchased headphones to use for our daughter in case there were any loud sounds (on rides, during a show or parade, etc.); however, we did not need or use.
  • Portable changing pad – This has been one of the best purchases I’ve made. A portable changing pad makes diaper changes on the go so much easier. We were able to grab this portable changing pad to take into the bathrooms at Disneyland instead of taking the whole diaper bag inside. This portable changing pad has room for diapers and wipes, and a small zipper pocket.
  • Snack container – I purchased a snack container to help organize our daughter’s snacks, and she definitely ate every snack we packed. The unfortunate thing was that we lost this somewhere at Disneyland 🙁
  • Hand fan – I purchased a small hand fan in anticipation of the heat at Disneyland; however, the weather was fine and we did not end up needing the fan. I’m hoping it will come in handy for other times.

See below for what I packed in my Disneyland Diaper Bag:

  • Portable changing pad
  • 1 extra outfit (since we were staying at the Disneyland Hotel, I didn’t feel like we needed more than 1 extra outfit, as we could restock if needed during our mid-day break)
  • Disposable bibs (these fit in the zipper pocket of the portable changing pad)
  • Disposable place mat (I fit one in the zipper pocket of the portable changing pad; however, I didn’t end up using)
  • Wet bag (these are always important to have in a diaper bag in case of any wet accidents)
  • Snacks (pack those easy non-perishable foods that you know your baby likes)
  • Wipes (from all purpose wipes to sanitizing wipes, all come in handy)
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat (to protect baby’s skin and eyes from the sun)
  • Lightweight blanket (we used in the morning when it was a bit chillier, but also packed in case it got too hot and to protect the stroller seat)
  • Purse backpack (to pack the essentials to take on the ride, including phone, wallet, keys, portable battery charger, Emma’s water bottle and snacks, hand sanitizer, and Kleenex)

We left our diaper bag in the stroller while we rode rides, and I took my purse on the rides with us. The purse fit perfectly by my feet on the rides.

Items We Didn’t Pack, but Considered:

  • Cloth Bibs (we packed regular bibs in our suitcase, but decided the disposable bibs were enough to bring into Disneyland)
  • Headphones (as mentioned above, we didn’t end up needing for Disneyland)
  • Toys (I thought we might need to bring one or two toys with us to Disneyland, but there was enough distraction in line to entertain our daughter)
  • Cooling towels (as mentioned above, we didn’t end up needing for Disneyland as the weather cooperated for us)
  • Hand fan (as mentioned above, we didn’t end up needing for Disneyland as the weather cooperated for us)
Additional Considerations

1. Be sure to check which rides are closed for refurbishment so that you don’t plan a strategy around a ride that you cannot even go on.

2. Look into rides that your child can go on (if you are prioritizing that). For our trip, we wanted to focus on rides that our daughter could also go on, instead of utilizing the Rider Switch program and going on rides without her.

When we went in September 2025, these are the rides that are daughter was able to go on with us (i.e., rides with no height requirements).

Side note: Be prepared to cushion your baby’s head on most rides as the rides can jerk when coming to a halt, causing your baby’s head to go forward/ back into the seat. My husband kept his arm behind our daughter’s head the whole time (if she was seated in between us).

Disneyland Park

  • Jungle Cruise
  • King Arthur Carrousel
  • Mad Tea Party
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

  • Mr. Toad’s Wile Ride
  • Peter Pan’s Flight
  • Pinocchio’s Daring Journey
  • Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island
  • Pirates of The Caribbean

  • Soarin’ Around the World
  • Toy Story Midway Mania
  • Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure

4. Lastly, if you are bring a child and using a stroller, be aware of stroller parking, but note that there is ample stroller parking throughout the parks. I found a convenient website that lists all of the stroller parking locations in both Disneyland park and California Adventure park, along with a Google Map of the locations. I utilized this to help plan which rides to go on.

Also, it is good to “decorate” your stroller so that it is easy to find in a sea of strollers, especially if a cast member has to move your stroller and it isn’t exactly where you left it.

Early Entry

One of the perks of staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel is early entry. On Tuesdays/Thursdays/Saturdays, Disneyland park opens 30 minutes early to hotel guests. On Mondays/Wednesday/Fridays/Sundays, California Adventure park opens 30 minutes early to hotel guests. As we were staying at the Disneyland Hotel and went to Disneyland on a Thursday, we were able to get into Disneyland park at 7:30am!

We woke up around 6:00am and left the room by 6:45am. The walk to Disneyland from the hotel is not as far as it may seem on the map. We were able to get through Downtown Disney security around 7:00am (and we pre-ordered Starbucks on the way) and grabbed our coffee (and milk for baby girl) on the way to the park. We got in line at the Disneyland gates around 7:15am.

We entered the park shortly before 7:30am and were able to go through a special early entry line on the right hand side after Main Street (near Tomorrowland). We had to show our hotel key cards or hotel reservations to get through. Other people (non-hotel-staying individuals) were lining up for ‘rope drop’ which happens at 8:00am when the park opens.

A few things to note about early entry:

1. Only certain rides are open as part of early entry. As of September 2025 when we went these were the rides that were part of early entry at Disneyland Park: Alice in Wonderland, Astro Orbiter, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Disneyland Monorail, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, King Arthur Carrousel, Mad Tea Party, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Peter Pan’s Flight, Pinocchio’s Daring Journey, Snow White’s Enchanted Wish, Space Mountain, and Star Tours – The Adventures Continue.

For completeness purposes, although irrelevant for our trip, as of September 2025 the rides that were part of early entry at California Adventure park were: Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, Incredicoaster, The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, Monsters Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!, Soarin’ Around the World, and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.

2. Early entry will be going away in January 2026 🙁 So take advantage now if you are going to Disneyland in 2025!

Morning Strategy

With early entry we had 30 minutes to take advantage of limited lines. Initially, I wanted to go on Peter Pan’s Flight first (as it’s one of my favorite rides); however, my sister-in-law sent me an Instagram Reel that recommended an outdoor ride for your baby’s first ride.

Many rides at Disneyland are in the dark, and can be scary for a child who’s never been on a ride before. As such, it is recommended to go on an outdoor ride first, if possible. As such, we went on Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride first (and the wait time was <5 minutes). My husband, daughter and I were all able to fit in one elephant.

This was one of my favorite rides as a child, and my parents love to tell the story of when I was a child we waited in line for the Dumbo ride for 45 minutes before I said “I don’t want to go on this ride anymore.” But my parents made me wait in line since we had already waited 45 minutes (good choice mom & dad, as I would have said the same thing to my daughter — can’t waste 45 minutes!).

Our daughter was unamused by Dumbo. She was neither thrilled nor scared riding this ride, which we took as a good sign, considering it could have been worse and she could have been crying the entire ride.

Next, we tried to go to Peter Pan’s Flight; however, the wait time was up to 20 minutes, and I didn’t want to waste the precious early entry time we had. As such, we headed to Alice and Wonderland ride (wait time <1 minute). My husband, daughter and I sat in the front row, while my parents sat in the row behind us. My daughter was observant of everything going on during the ride, and only let out one cry when we were about to exit the ride.

As it was approaching 8:00am (opening to all guests), we headed towards Adventureland to go on Pirates of the Caribbean next. My strategy with going on Pirates of the Caribbean was that this ride was not a Lightning Lane attraction, so we wanted to go on it when the wait time was expected to be minimal (wait time <5 minutes). On the way to Pirates of the Caribbean, we booked our first Lightning Lane attraction for Haunted Mansion, as the ride is nearby Pirates.

As you know, Pirates of the Caribbean is a very dark water ride with 2 drops. The initial drop startled our daughter and she let out a cry or two, but after that she clung to me and eventually fell asleep. A lot of the dark rides put her to sleep.

After Pirates of the Caribbean we headed over to Haunted Mansion to use our Lightning Lane (which came in handy, as the normal wait time was up to 20 minutes). When we got to the front of the line, the cast member told us that there was a technical issue and the ride was currently closed; however, we should continue to wait as he expected it to open up soon. We maybe waited 5 minutes before the ride re-opened. My husband, daughter and I shared one buggy. Again, as Haunted Mansion is a dark ride, our daughter clung to my husband the whole time and maybe closed her eyes here and there.

After Haunted Mansion we headed over to Winnie the Pooh’s Adventure ride (wait time <5 minutes). I hadn’t been on this ride in ages, so it was fun for me to go on. My husband, daughter and I sat in the front row, while my parents sat in the row behind us. Our daughter was awake and observant during this ride, and didn’t cry.

After Winnie the Pooh, it was approaching morning snack time, so we headed over to a nearby cart to grab a banana for our daughter (+ some snacks we also brought).

Late Morning to Afternoon

I didn’t want to plan too much of the day, as I knew things would come up, such as ride cancellations, lightning lane attraction timing, diaper changes, etc. As such, I prioritized scheduling out the first couple hours in the morning. I figured the rest of the day we could plan as we go.

After morning snack, we headed out of Adventureland and stopped at Jungle Cruise on the way (wait time <10 minutes). My daughter was unimpressed with this ride, but seemed to just relax on me while taking in the sights.

After Jungle Cruise we headed back to Fantasyland to see if Peter Pan’s Flight wait time had gone down (it had not). Instead, we decided to ride Snow White (wait time <10 minutes). We then headed over to the Mad Hatter in Fantasyland to purchase our daughter her first Mickey ears! There was an infant Mickey ears hat that said “First Visit” — it was perfect! I have a Mickey ears hat at home, with my name embroidered on it, so we had to do the same for our daughter. We spent $30 after the embroidery, which I believe was around $8.

After Fantasyland, we headed into ToonTown to take some fun photos! We took our daughter to the Toontown gym and jail where we got some cute photos. We booked our next Lightning Lane attraction for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Since we had some time to kill, we relaxed on the benches in the turf grass area near the fire station.

A little girl and her dad were playing with a Disney bubble wand and our daughter wondered over (attracted to the bubbles) and started playing with the little girl. This is how we found out our daughter LOVES bubbles and how my parents ended up buying her a bubble wand from Disneyland!

When our Lightning Lane time opened we headed over to the ride. As mentioned previously, this ride can definitely be jerky so be sure to hold onto baby tight. I had never been on this ride, so it was thrilling to go on for the first time!

Afterwards we headed to Daisy’s Cafe to grab lunch. My brother and sister-in-law showed up while we were eating lunch. Unfortunately, it was a little after noon and we could tell our daughter was getting tired. We headed back to the hotel after lunch to put her down for a nap. She fell asleep on my husband as we were walking back.

She slept for 2+ hours, while my husband and I also snuck in a short nap. My parents stayed at the park for another hour with my brother and sister-in-law before they were too tired and had to come back to the hotel for a nap.

Side note on nap schedule and Disneyland: At the time, my daughter was taking one ~2 hour nap a day. We were aiming to keep to this schedule, but knew travel could disrupt. If our daughter fell asleep at the parks we were going to adjust her to a 2-nap schedule; however, that didn’t happen. We followed her sleep cues, and since she got tired after lunch we headed back to the hotel. Staying at the Disneyland Hotel made the mid-day break so convenient! We were thrilled to have our daughter stick to her standard nap routine, and it also allowed us a break during the day (we’d been up since 6:00am, and we knew it would be a long night!).

Mid Afternoon to Evening

Our daughter woke up around 3:00pm and we grabbed a PM snack for her before heading back to the park. We headed to California Adventure as we had not yet been to that park yet, and it was closing early that night at 6:00pm for the Oogie Boogie Bash.

In my opinion, California Adventure is tailored more towards adults — a lot of the rides, or at least a lot of the fun rides, do have height requirements. However, I wanted to take my daughter on 2 rides at California Adventure for sure, Monsters Inc. Mikey & Sulley to the Rescue! and Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure! We have sort of allocated Ariel as our daughter’s favorite Disney Princess because Ariel is the only red-head (and our daughter, somehow, is a red head). My husband has a great grandpa and I have a great grandma that apparently had red hair, and our daughter inherited the recessive gene from us!

Since my brother and sister-in-law were already in California Adventure and had a Lightning Lane for Spider Man ride, my husband and I used a Lightning Lane on Monsters Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! My daughter was very observant during this ride (and she hasn’t even seen Monsters Inc yet!). After that we (along with my brother and sister-in-law) Lightning Lane’d Little Mermaid! Our daughter was also very observant during this ride, and she has seen Little Mermaid before.

When we got off the ride, my sister-in-law ran over to a nearby cart and purchased an Ariel doll for Emma! She loved it and held onto it while in her stroller.

My parents were on their way back to the parks at this point, so we all planned to head out of California Adventure and into Disneyland (to also miss the rush of guests leaving California Adventure at 6:00pm for the Oogie Boogie Bash). However, my brother and sister-in-law convinced us to get a beer before heading to Disneyland (as alcohol is mainly served in California Adventure, vs Disneyland).

We spent longer than we should have getting a beer, but our daughter was loving playing on the chairs at Smokejumpers Grill! The timing worked out as my parents got in line at Disneyland for a photo at the Mickey Pumpkin. One perk of purchasing Lightning Lane is getting access to photo pass. We had the Disneyland cast member take our photos at the pumpkin and I was able to access the photos shortly after on the Disneyland app.

After getting photos at the Mickey Pumpkin, it was approaching 5:30pm so we headed to Star Wars Land to grab dinner at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo. Unfortunately, my daughter was not about this food, so we entertained her with some of her other snacks while the adults ate. We headed to a nearby food cart to get her some additional nutrition (cheese, grapes, pretzel chips and hummus).

After dinner, we walked towards Fantasyland (again to check Peter Pan’s flight – wait time was even longer at this time), so we booked another Lightning Lane attraction for It’s A Small World. It was getting dark at this time so we knew the night was coming to an end for our daughter (as she normally goes to bed around 7:30pm). However, we had saved what turned out to be the best ride for last! She LOVED It’s a Small World! She was enthralled by the music and the lights!

Nighttime

My husband and I walked our daughter back to the hotel after the ride, while my parents stayed with my brother and sister-in-law for the next hour or so. My parents then, so generously, came back to the hotel around 8:30pm to watch our daughter (who was asleep) so that my husband and I cold go back to the parks with my brother and sister-in-law. Unfortunately, the Lightning Lane we had booked for Space Mountain got cancelled as we were walking back to Disneyland because the ride had closed down earlier in the night and did not reopen.

As my husband and I were in short supply of alcohol, we swung by Naples Ristorante to grab a quick cocktail at the bar before going back into Disneyland. We headed towards Star Wars Land again to see if we could squeeze in a spot at Oga’s Cantina (and we did!). It was nice to enjoy some “adult time” at Disneyland — so  shoutout to the grandparents!

We met back up with my brother and sister-in-law on Main Street where we caught part of the Paint the Night parade, as well as grabbing ice cream at Gibson Grill! We left Disneyland a bit before park closing (at 11:00pm) and headed towards Downtown Disney. My husband and I wanted to look in the World of Disney store to make some purchases for ourselves. We ended up buying some Disneyland jersey shirts for the entire family. Last time we went to Disneyland (2 years prior) we purchased Disneyland jersey shirts (mine Peter Pan themed and my husband’s Lion King themed). This time we opted for non-movie-themed styles.

As it was getting late, my husband and I headed back to the Disneyland Hotel to relieve my parents of watching our daughter (sleep). We went to bed that night extremely tired, but hearts full of Disney magic and a wonderful day spent with family.

Goofy's Kitchen

The following morning we slept in (a little bit), not waking up until 7:00am/7:30am. We had breakfast reservations at Goofy’s Kitchen at 8:30am. I remember doing a character breakfast at the hotel in Disney World when I was a kid, and I was so excited to go again while at the Disneyland Hotel. The 8:30am reservation timing worked out perfectly, as we had time after breakfast to pack up before checking out of the hotel at 11:00am. Unfortunately, due to the weather we didn’t have time to take advantage of the pool. If I were to do it again, I would like to stay at the Disneyland Hotel longer and take advantage of all of the hotel amenities.

I was worried that the breakfast at Goofy’s Kitchen (buffet style) would be overrated, the food was actually good. However, as we somewhat expected, our daughter did NOT love the characters coming up to her during breakfast. She didn’t mind them while they were on the other side of the room, but was not a fan of them when they were close up. I think she was used to seeing the characters on tv (on a much smaller scale), so it was a shock to see them bigger than the average adult.

Goofy’s Kitchen is not cheap (@ $69/ adult, but free for child under 3 years old), but it was an experience I will never forget and I would highly recommend. Before entering, you can take a picture with Goofy (also part of photo pass) — which surprisingly, our daughter did not cry during. She does really like Goofy, so that could be why. She ended up picking out a Goofy doll that my parents bought for her. She now has TWO Disney stuffed characters and loves them both!

After breakfast, we headed over to Disney’s Fantasia Shop at the hotel to grab a few last minute souvenirs. We purchased a Disneyland Hotel ornament to commemorate our trip, as well as a crewneck sweatshirt and hat (for myself) and a Halloween onesie for our daughter. There are so many things to buy at the Disney shops — I could spend thousands of dollars there!

We headed back to our room to pack up our things, and checked out of the hotel at 11:00am. The checkout process was extremely smooth and we got help with our luggage down to our car. Overall the experience at the Disneyland Hotel was phenomenal and I would 100% stay there again (and hope to!).

Cost Breakdown

Disneyland Hotel 1 Bedroom Family Suite (2 nights) – $2,692

Disneyland Hotel Parking – $80 ($40/night)

Disneyland Ticket – $478 (for 2 tickets, including Lightning Lane)

Disneyland Park Food and Drink – $150

Disneyland Souvenirs – $500

Total: $3,900

Conclusion

This was by far one of my favorite Disney trips! It was so magical seeing Disneyland through my daughter’s eyes – seeing her light up on It’s a Small World made my year! What made the trip even more special was having my family along with us. (I highly recommend matching family Disney shirts, as the photos are SO cute!).

We loved our stay at the Disneyland Hotel and appreciated the close proximity to the parks (and Downtown Disney). The hotel is not overrated, and I think there are even more amenities to explore at the hotel that we didn’t have time to take advantage of. I look forward to staying at the Disneyland Hotel again, or even trying one of the other Disneyland Resort Hotels (Grand Californian or Pixar Hotel).

Yes, Disney is expensive, but if you’re looking for an unforgettable vacation with you family, I highly recommend Disneyland and the Disneyland Hotel! You will make magical memories for years to come!
